Consent

What you're agreeing to

You sit in a small room with one interviewer and answer seven questions, in whatever language you prefer. We record picture and sound. It takes about twenty minutes. You can stop at any point, and you can decline any question.

You leave with a copy of your recording.

What we record and keep

• The video and audio of your conversation.
• Your name and an email address or phone number, so we can reach you about the film and about this consent.
• The language you answered in.

We do not ask for anything else. We do not record your address, your date of birth, or your nationality unless you choose to say them on camera.

What we do with it

Your recording may be used, in whole or in part, in a short film called The Cost of Kindness, and in the material that presents it: a trailer, festival submissions, and this website. It may also be shown at public screenings and released online.

We will not cut your words to make them mean something you did not say. We will not add a caption or a voice-over that characterises you.

Before the film is released, everyone who took part will be able to watch it privately, through a link on this website, and tell us what they think.

Withdrawing

You can withdraw at any time up to [date, or: the day the final edit is locked]. Write to [email] and we will remove your recording from the film and delete our copies. After that date the film cannot be re-cut, but we will still delete any footage that was not used.

Withdrawing has no consequence of any kind. You do not have to give a reason.

How long we keep it

Recordings that appear in the film are kept for as long as the film exists. Recordings that do not appear in the film are deleted [period, for example: within twelve months of the film's release]. Your contact details are deleted when we no longer need them to reach you about the film.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller, in the sense of the General Data Protection Regulation, is [name and postal address of the person or entity responsible]. You can reach them at [email].

Recordings are stored on [where: for example, encrypted drives held by the two filmmakers, and a backup with a named provider in the European Union]. We do not sell, license, or give your recording to anyone else for any other purpose.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us, at any time, to:

• tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy (access);
• correct anything that is wrong (rectification);
• delete your recording and your details (erasure), subject to the withdrawal date above;
• limit what we do with it while a question is resolved (restriction);
• stop using it for a particular purpose (objection).

Complaints

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Luxembourg data protection authority, the Commission nationale pour la protection des données (CNPD), at cnpd.lu. We would rather you told us first, so we can put it right.

The private screening

When the edit is finished and before the film is public, each person who took part receives a private link. The link opens the film on this website. It is for you; please keep it to yourself.

Below the film there is a place to write to us. What you write there is stored with your link, read by the two of us, and used to decide whether anything in the film should change. It is not published. Writing there does not change your rights above; you can still withdraw by the date given, whether or not you write anything.

This website

The website sets no cookies and loads nothing from anyone else. If you answer the question on the home page, your answer is kept only in your own browser, on your own device, and never sent to us. If you leave an email address to hear when the film is ready, we keep the address and nothing else, write to you once, and delete it.

Signing

At the booth you sign one copy of this sheet and keep another. Signing means you have read it, you had the chance to ask about it, and you agree to what it says.
